Today I woke up with a sore throat, Rachel had it earlier in the week so it's only to be expected I suppose, but it feels like tiny shards of glass in my throat and I have a woolly head too. My plans of making two more riding hat storage bags

took a back seat (they need a clear head and more than just be able to count to ten on my fingers).
So after a lovely cup of tea and several time wasting plays of candy crush I headed off to my workroom to make a patchwork personalised cushion as a present for one of Rachel's friends. I won some black and white patchwork squares a while back in a blog giveaway and as Rachel's friend has just had her bedroom decorated with a monochrome theme I thought these would be ideal. I chose some spots and leaf pattern for the squares and a scroll work pattern for the letters.

I teamed them with some black corduroy for the front and backed the cushion with black gingham (I interfaced this first to give it some body). I love trying out different fonts for my appliqué and am improving my stitching around each letter! I like to use a straight stitch as I get a bit cross with zig-zag matching up although I am always in awe of those that have mastered it, so if you have an tips or tricks of the trade let me know.

Hopefully my sore throat won't stay around for too long and I will be back to working through my long to do list.
