Routine - a way back into blogging

Do you have a routine or are you more of a laid back 'do it tomorrow' kind of person?

I'm thinking that a more structured routine might help with regular blog posts and crafting.

I do have a routine with the children, school, bedtime and meals etc but I'm finding that the bit in the middle and my evenings are running away with themselves without much being achieved. Don't get me wrong we have had a busy few weeks converting the garage and swapping sheds so it may just be that now things have slowed down and the progress on getting my new studio straight is taking longer than I would like but I do feel I need a bit more structure to my day to achieve the little things before they become big things!

With both me and Mr MadAboutBags at home during the day it's really easy to think "oh we'll do that tomorrow, let's have a cup of tea" and before we know it's nearly time for the school run and as we all know the time between 3pm and bedtime is super, super busy and with these light evenings by the time I sit down I'm absolutely pooped and the last thing I feel like doing is sitting at the computer or behind my sewing machine.

I also have a new (I did join months ago) online photography course that I would like to start and finish.

So my questions are :

Do you have a routine, especially if both of you are at home?

Do set aside time to blog etc or is it more adhoc?

And how do you limit your social media time? facebook and pinterest have a lot to answer to!

Deciding to introduce a new routine just as we are hitting the long summer holidays probably is going to be the easiest of tasks but I thought I would begin the month of July with a blog post and see where it takes me.

I'm looking forward to hearing how your routines work for you.

  1. GM and I are at home together permanently now, but we seem to have set times for cups of tea, lunch etc, and generally each do our own thing in between, unless we are going out or doing "joint" jobs, like decorating. It's a sort of routine, but fairly relaxed. We don't do anything other than relax in the evenings, even without children we are usually pooped. My best time for social media is early in the mornings, before my day gets going (it's 7am as I write).

  2. I'm on my own so can generally just please myself. I feel more positive if I have something in the way of a routine, which in term time obviously has to fit around teaching commitments but in holiday times is much more relaxed, to the point of being almost non-existent and productivity suffers as a result. This is one aspect of my life I'm consciously trying to sort out because retirement is looming and I want to be on top of things.

I try to post every day, even if it is just a photo, as I find that without that discipline it is easy to forget and then I find that days have passed without writing anything. I also join in with a few regular memes as the routine of doing those sort of posts helps with regular posting as well - some are monthly and a couple are weekly. I tend to check the blog first thing in the morning and then again during the evening if I'm not going out. I don't often watch TV so it's one of the ways I occupy my time.

  3. We are both home, we have set routines for breakfast, lunch, cups of tea/coffee etc. We do certain jobs together, but then we want to "play" me crafting, him doing his thing, we settle down to watch a couple of tv programmes in the evening. We tend to do jobs together in the mornings. I look at blogs and FB in the mornings only. I work on the computer to make patterns, and sometimes go back to the family tree if I have a whim to.

  4. We both work during the day and are usually home together of an evening unless he is working away. I've tried a few time to set myself a routine, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't, but something that someone else has suggested to me, and something that she does is allocates an evening a week to different sites. So one evening she focuses on Pinterest, another evening Goodreads and so on, she dips into Facebook and Twitter more frequently. I'm going to give it a go, it sounds quite feasible to me. Not sure it would work so much on the blogging front but personally I've been using my weekends to do the majority of my blogging and have been dropping in throughout the week to finish up, it has saved me oddles of time, I've just got to keep it up x x x

  7. I'm completely rubbish at routines! Apart from the school lunch/drive/collection, I'm a bit all over the place, which is why my blog has severely lacked in the past months!! I do try, but am very easily sidetracked, especially if the weather is good and I have my camera to hand.... :)
